Fiddler Red Hicks recalls his musical career. Topics discussed include his musical background; playing at dances at age 11; playing with Bill and Earl Bolick (the Blue Sky Boys; the rivalry between Bill Monroe and the Bolicks while they were both playing for Raleigh station WPTF; why the Bolicks were reluctant to play on the Grand Ole Opry; how Bill Bolick handled the act's business affairs; being on TV in the late 1930's; playing with the Wreckin' Crew; recording sessions in Atlanta; and old country songs vs. new country songs.

Country music performer. Born March 20, 1946. Best-known as Ranger Doug from Riders in the Sky, a cowboy revival act he co-founded in 1977. Performed as a member of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys during the late 1960s. Recording credits include a solo album, Songs of the Sage, released on the Warner Western label in 1997.
